The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. Pte Ltd is a subsidiary of the B.P. de Silva Group, which originally established themselves as jewellers in Singapore and Malaysia at the turn of the century. In the early 30’s, the group diversified into the watch business and currently represent such well-known brands as Audemars Piguet, Omega, Rado, Longines, Tissot, Pierre Balmain, Swatch and more recently Calvin Klein and Blancpain. In the late 70’s, the group entered the tea business and very rapidly became recognised as one of the leading companies in the tea industry.

Our romance with tea has long been a passionate and lingering duet. In 1990, this intense love culminated in the birth of The 1872 Clipper Tea Co under the B. P. de Silva Group. The christening was apt, simply because 1872 marks the founding of B. P. de Silva, whilst Clipper is reminiscent of the age-old Clipper ships that sailed the seven seas during the heyday of the British Empire.

Today, The 1872 Clipper Tea Co embodies that same spirit of adventure and exuberance. In tribute to the bold captains of bygone Clipper ships who raced from the Canton River to the Tea Exchange in London to bring in the first tea for auction, our experts now scour the exotic East for the best teas – in Sri Lanka, India and China.
